Seeing is the most immediate way we navigate the world. It is also one of the most automatic. You can’t not have a spiritual perspective, just as you can’t not have a natural perspective. The only question is, what will your perspective be?
Well, Kanye West is for Jesus, and he’s gathering one of the motliest crew of celebrities, hip-hop fans, artists, believers, and sceptics that the world has ever seen.
Kanye West brings much-needed energy, innovation and musical integrity to Christian music. Although the beginnings of this new path may not be as polished as they could be, West’s faith will continue to positively inform his creative practice and Christian music will be better for it in the long run.
Whether we are aware of it or not, our perspective and attitude towards work communicates very clearly what we believe about the Kingdom of God. That is, what the Kingdom’s purpose on the earth is, and our role within that purpose.
Whether there’s a self-seeking motive or another less-than-holy force at play, the ways it can go wrong are many. But they are far outweighed by the ways it can go right.
The Hebrew word “Shabbat” comes from a root that means “to repose, to desist from exertion.” It means literally, to rest. And that is exactly what I’m suggesting.
