Redeemer University College
Redeemer University College offers strong degree pathways in 37 different majors and streams, leading to many exciting professions and callings. Everything is rooted in a Christ-centered, rigorous academic program that challenges you to develop a Kingdom vision, challenging students to reach higher, think wider and dive deeper into your program, your faith and your world.
Students quickly realize how dynamic and diverse the City of Hamilton is. Transit routes nearby mean that shopping centres, theatres, entertainment venues and the downtown core are easily accessible. Students frequent different festivals (like the Supercrawl art, food and music festival), unique cafés and restaurants, and hiking trails to admire some of the many waterfalls.
Redeemer’s communal living experience gives students both independence and support. You’ll have your freedom, but you won’t be isolated. Students are part of a community of believers who gather together regularly through dorm devotions, chapel, Bible studies and Church-in-the-Box to worship, dig deeper into God’s Word and spend time encouraging each other in their personal faith journeys.
Alongside exploring what you want to do and discovering how to reach your goals is the bigger question of who you’ll be when you get there. From law to journalism, politics to education, science to philosophy, Redeemer’s interdisciplinary degree programs challenge you to study deeply and think broadly about where God is calling you.
Practicums & Internships
In the co-operative education program, students in the business or urban and intercultural ministry program have the opportunity to pursue work terms in a variety of businesses and nonprofit organizations where they can apply concepts they have learned in the classroom and enhance their soft skills. Students can also earn academic credit for internships in local or global organizations through practical hands-on experiences through the Laurentian Leadership centre program in Ottawa or by going abroad with international organizations. Off-campus study programs gives students the opportunity to study at universities and organizations across the globe, all while fulfilling your academic requirements. The Redeemer in the South of France and the Oxford Programme are two of the most popular, but they certainly aren’t the only options!
Connect what you’re learning with what you love to do. Planned or spontaneous, students can always find an outlet for their talents and passions. Some perform in the concert choir or get involved in the mainstage play, while others lead through student government or write for the student newspaper. Midnight breakfasts. Movie nights. Memories in the making.
The Redeemer Royals play for the best fanbase in the OCAA. Redeemer athletics focuses on the overall development of a student-athlete through its five men and women’s varsity sports — badminton, basketball, cross-country, soccer and volleyball — as well as a variety of intramural sports teams. We value you as both a student and an athlete and want you to succeed at both.
Redeemer students are often deeply involved in downtown Hamilton between volunteering at a weekly after school Kid’s Club or Deedz – a regular Friday night, student-led program of handing out hot chocolate and engaging in conversations, often about faith, with Hamiltonians in the downtown core. There are also trips during reading break volunteering for different organizations and helping out with a variety of programs at local churches as a way to combine Christian service with learning abroad.
The Centre for Experiential Learning and Careers (CELC) connects a student’s sense of calling with intentional career exploration and planning. Through cooperative education, internships, workshops, and individualized career guidance, students will develop a sense of where God is leading them past graduation. The Centre represents our commitment to increasing the number of experiential learning options available across the curriculum with students reaping the rewards of mentorship, networking opportunities, and workplace experience.
