Rosebud School Of The Arts
Rosebud School of the Arts sits at the heart of one of the most vibrant artistic communities in Canada. Unique to RSA is its affiliation with Rosebud Theatre, Western Canada’s largest rural professional theatre. With over 40,000 annual patrons Rosebud Theatre provides an unparalleled opportunity to practice your craft in a working theatre, honing your skills through apprenticeship with professional theatre mentors as you prepare for a career in the performing arts. Rosebud’s commitment to Learning on Location takes you to theatre centres in Canada and around the world!
Nested in a river valley, Rosebud is a place where the beauty of the landscape inspires creativity. You will walk to an acting class through prairie grass and see the sun set from your residence. Nearby is the epic landscape of the Canadian Badlands, where you can explore hoodoos and fossil beds. The city of Calgary, with its vibrant heritage and cultural scene, is an hour’s drive away.
Rosebud is an arts village of 100 souls where learning extends beyond the classroom by meeting with mentors at the local café, sharing a meal with visiting artists, and discussing design ideas on the street.
RSA’s Certificate (one year) and Diploma (two years) programme combine in-depth learning in all areas of theatre arts with performance opportunities on the Studio Stage. You can use your training as a stepping stone to other programs by continuing your education at Briercrest College or Crandall University. Or you can continue your professional theatre training with apprenticeship opportunities at Rosebud Theatre. The rate of Rosebud graduates working in the theatre & film industry is one of the highest in Canada.
Practicums & Internships
The Professional Training programme (four years) prepares you for a career in the performing arts through rigorous training and apprenticeship opportunities with Rosebud Theatre, a year-round working theatre company.
Improv, jam nights, Xtreme workout, theatre field trips to Calgary, prayer group, bible study.
Theatre training is by definition physical training. RSA’s curriculum includes daily physical warm ups and classes in dance, movement, and stage combat. You have free 24/7 access to a work-out equipment room.
Believing that our spiritual gifts are intimately connected with our creative gifts, Rosebud develops honest, caring, and talented theatre artists who have the skills and the heart to make a difference in the world – a world that needs art to transport the heart, mind and soul. At the core of Rosebud’s training is learning how to offer a story that transforms lives and culture.
Rosebud grads pursue work in film, music and theatre, receiving positive recognition throughout Western Canada. Grads are found in acting, stage management, and design roles with major theatre companies (Theatre Calgary, Vertigo Theatre, Shakespeare Company, Pacific Theatre, etc.) and film/TV (Heartland, Hell On Wheels, She Has A Name, etc.), winning award nominations in Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton.
